SoprAlti - Zurich Opera House Youth Choir
When only the older members of the Children’s Choir were required for a number of operas and operettas during the 1999/2000 season, the ensemble’s frequent rehearsals led it to develop its own dynamic. Ultimately, the Youth Choir evolved informally from the Children’s Choir for the première of “Carmen” in July 2002.
Today, the young choir is a permanent feature of Zurich Opera House, giving an average of 30 to 80 performances per season. The Youth Choir regularly performs together with the Opera House’s other choirs, as well as giving its own performances, such as in “Königskinder” (the broom-maker’s children), “Le Cid” (young girls) or “The Cunning Little Vixen” (chickens). Individual members can also be heard as soloists in various operas.
Outside the Opera House, the Youth Choir’s yearly programme includes its own concerts, guest performances abroad, masses on church holidays as well as private functions for companies and foundations, as well as performances at the great concert halls.
The Zurich Opera House Youth Choir consists of more than twenty enthusiastic singers aged from 15 to 30. The intensive friendships cultivated beyond the confines of musical commitment enable an effortlessly harmonious collaboration. The choir thus evolves continuously while also meeting the requirements of the seasonal programme.
